HomeExchange doesn't know any more than you do about what the situation will be this summer. What we do know right now:
Coming out of lockdown will be gradual and the social distancing restrictions and gathering bans will probably last a few weeks or even months, depending on the country you live in.
Many borders will remain closed, especially those in the Schengen area of Europe to the rest of the world. Some national borders will also remain closed. Please check the websites of the national authorities in your country to find out more about the situation and the measures taken or planned in your country.
Our advice:
-
Start conversations. Discussions are always welcome on HomeExchange. You can initiate conversations with people in the community not too far from your home, in your region or country, to consider exchange opportunities. Discussing options and learning about a region from hosts is what makes us a supportive and engaged community. This will enable you to make a more informed decision about summer travel.
-
Travel close to home. Each of our regions contains beautiful places that we haven’t discovered yet. The closer an exchange is to your home, the more relaxed you will be when you get there. This year may be the time to re-discover your region or country!
-
Make your region known. Fill in this questionnaire to share the gems in your region so that they appear on our map of local recommendations! This could inspire members to come to your place instead of going far away.
- Get inspired with our map of recommendations.
- Participate and share your local recommendations here.
-
Opt for an accessible destination. The ideal is to choose places you can get to on your own, so that you are not dependent on public transportation that could be cancelled.
-
Be transparent. Home exchanging is, above all, a relationship based on trust and discussion. Home exchanges can be cancelled by mutual agreement. We recommend you keep in close contact with your exchange partner to inform them of your concerns so that, in the event of a cancellation or postponement, things can be resolved smoothly and by mutual agreement.
