The lockdowns imposed in many countries require strict travel restrictions. Before the official end of the confinement period in your country, it is not recommended to travel.
Returning to normal life will take place gradually and social distancing and taking other precautions will continue to be required, even after travel is permitted. The sooner your trip is scheduled to occur, the more likely it is that travel restrictions will be in place.
Some questions that may help you decide whether to cancel or postpone an exchange:
*Is your exchange in your region, in your country, or abroad?
*Are you traveling privately, or are you traveling by public transport: bus, train or plane?
*Does your trip necessarily involve times where social distancing would be difficult?
Home exchange is a relationship based on trust and honest conversation. The wisest thing to do is to always make your exchange partner aware of your doubts (they will probably have the same!) so that you can decide together.
Your exchange partner will be in the best position, if you have planned an exchange with someone in another country, to explain to you the situation in their country, the measures taken by the authorities and whether your exchange can take place safely.
By keeping in touch with your exchange partner, you will be able to make your decision as close to your planned departure as possible, making it more apparent how you should proceed.
Remember that it is often possible to postpone an exchange rather than cancel it. If you agree with your partner on dates, our member service team will change the exchange date for you. Write to us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you have not yet agreed on the dates, you can cancel the exchange on the platform before sending a new request at a later time.
